Friday Feature 2/23/2018 – Searching on the Bazaar Terminal

Today’s Friday Feature has been guest written by community member Isty! Isty  is one of our main crafters and if you’ve not been out to their salon in Gnorton on Naboo, you are missing a great treat!

Isty’s Friday Feature is about using the Bazaar in an Empire in Flames! Well done, Isty!

Sandarie, Community Manager

Hello all.

I thought I would write this because it is a question that comes up now and then.  Sometimes people tell us they were not even aware of this function.

When you go to a Bazaar Terminal (located at or near most Banking Terminals in NPC cities), you will notice, especially here on EiF, that there is almost nothing for sale.  This is because almost nobody uses the actual All Auctions part of the Bazaar. There is a row of tabs along the top of the Bazaar Terminal window. By default you will be viewing the All Auctions tab.

Tabs two, three, and four are fairly self-explanatory and because nobody uses the first tab, these tabs can almost be ignored.

The right-hand one, or fifth one,  is called Vendor Location, which curiously (and confusingly) many of us refer to as Vendor Search.
If you click the Vendor Location tab, you will see a screen which looks almost identical to the All Auctions tab. The difference is now you are not viewing items for sale on the Bazaar, but items for sale on people’s vendors scattered around the galaxy.

You will need to refine the search, by using these buttons provided in the window.

The default choice,This Region, will be useless and likely show nothing because you will be in a NPC city and nobody has vendors in a NPC city.

The middle option allows you to search This Planet which can be useful sometimes, especially if you know you are on the planet of the shop you which you are looking to buy from.

You should probably click the top one to search the Entire Galaxy, as it allows you to search the entire galaxy (bet you didn’t see that coming).  You will probably use this most often, if not exclusively.

Once you have selected Entire Galaxy, you may wish to narrow your search further by using the folders beneath them.

Some of the folders will have other buttons within their “folder”. For example:  Deeds contains the sub-groups Buildings, Droids, Installations, Pets and Vehicles. If you are wishing to buy a droid, you do not want to go through all the buildings and vehicles in order to find one.
One useful thing to know, if you are wanting to buy small and/or consumable things, such as Food, Drink, Powerups, and a few other items, you probably won’t be trying to buy just one.
So for such things, instead of looking in the Food or Drink folder, click on the folder called Misc, scroll down a little and find Factory Crates.  Here you can buy crates full of the food, drink, power-up or whatever. Many sellers of such things will probably sell 99% (or 100%) of their goods in factory crates, so this is worth knowing

When you have found the item(s) you wish to purchase, you can either right click the listing, and select Waypoint to Vendor, or you can click the button at the bottom of the listings.

This will create a waypoint in your Datapad (CTRL + D by default). Open your datapad, select the Waypoint tab to see this, it will be labeled Waypoint To Vendor.  You may need to uncheck “Only show waypoints on current planet,” if the shop is not on your current planet.

If you are buying more than one item from multiple vendors, before setting off rename the waypoint to something you will recognize, such as “Crate of Pikatta Pie”, then it won’t be mixed up with any subsequent waypoints you make for other items from other shops.

Once you have all the waypoints, close the Bazaar and head to the planet(s) your new waypoints are on and go to the shops and buy, buy, buy!

I hope this has been helpful to some of you, happy shopping!

Friday Feature – 2/9/2018 THE Road Map for EiF (released 2/16/2018)

GCW

then

Jedi

then

Underworld

Of Special Note: Devs reserve the right to set aside this entire plan, if it’s not full implemented when JtL drops from SWGEmu. Likely getting back to it someday…(only slightly teasing?)

Bam! Done! *drops mic and walks away*

Alright, I was slightly tempted to ONLY post the above. But I love EiF and it’s Community. That actually is the Roadmap however. Oh, right, there are no dates are there! There have never been dates associated the release of our publishes. This is by design. We are a small team of volunteers. Everyone of us has something outside of EiF that puts a roof over our heads and feeds our families. However that’s not the reason there are no dates. EiF doesn’t want to promise something and not be able to deliver. Since launch, there have been family emergencies, equipment failures, internet failures, work demands, SWGEmu tweaks that break EiF. All things beyond our control. We don’t want to disappoint by not delivering on promises. That’s why our road map looks the way it does.

Friday Feature 2/2/2018 – Food and Drinks (released 2/16/2018)

It feels a teensy weensy bit self-serving to be writing about this topic. However the timing is such that it needs to be addressed. Why now? What is special about this time in the life of EiF? I’m soooo glad you asked! Players are starting to think about how to get the most from their characters and templates now that PvP is starting to kick in. The GCW Invasions are being live tested. Bases are being dropped by opposing factions, just taunting the opposition to come blow them up! Just last week the Imperials and New Republic faced off over salvaging the ruins of a blown up NR Base outside Anchorhead.

The player killing instincts are coming to the surface. Crafters want to make the toughest, most resistant armor. Weapons need to deal a lot of damage! How can foods help? There are food and drink to help improve Assembly and Experimentation chances. Food to increase the drop rate on creature resources when something amazing is available.

There are player enhancing foods and drinks. Things to temporarily increase health or mind pools. Need to dodge better? Are you missing your targets and need to be more accurate? Yes, you guessed it there is a food or drink for that! ((Okay, I’m totally geeking out and thinking…”there is an app for that* Then I remember back when I played SWG Live there were no tablets and smart phones in everyone’s hand, and apps weren’t a thing. Sorry, back to the topic at hand. Hee hee hee))

This is by no means meant to be an exhaustive list, nor am I the expert. Not by a long shot. Thanks to Colin and Anishor for their input into this Friday Feature.

Things to be aware of when using Food and Drink

Filling – Each food or drink has a fill number. This means how much your tummy is filled when you eat or drink an item. You can fill your tummy up to 100. There is a lot of strategy that players put into this, so talk to some experienced PvPers to learn more.

Timing vs # – Each food or drink item has a duration that is either a set amount of time or a number of uses.

Bonuses –

-Citros Snowcake:
Accuracy bonus to hit on the currently equipped weapon

-Vayerbok:
Block – Increases the chance to block

-Synthsteak:
Damage reduction for a set number of attacks, but never lasts longer than the designated duration. Gives a nice edge in PVP, especially if facing a hard opponent like a rifleman with an ion rifle or various others that sometimes hit hard for one or another reason. This will reduce the indicated % of the DMG you take after your armour reduction has fully had its course.

-Exo-Protein Wafer:
Damage Reduction. Works exactly like Synthsteak, but not as strong, nor filling.

-Pikatta Pie:
Dodge – Increases ability to dodge for a set amount of time.

-Aircake:
Dodge – Less powerful than Pikatta Pie

Pool Increases

-Accarragm:
Action/Quickness/Stamina – Increases each of the three pools for a set time duration

-Vasarian Brandy :
Mind/focus/willpower pool increase for a set duration.

-Vagnerian Canape:
Focus and willpower

Other

-Veghash:
Creature Harvesting – While not directly PvP related, the resources are for the crafters who make the weapons, armor, food, and drinks PvPers use. This provides a direct increase to the amount of resources harvested.

-Blue milk:
Instant heal to your mind. Not often used, but useful in a tight situation where you need that little edge over the opponent.

-Bespin Port:
Crafting Experimentation – Increases the chance to get an amazing on the first experimentation

-Pyollian Cake:
Crafting Assembly – Increases the chance to get an amazing on the assembly of your item.

Friday Feature 1/20/2018 – Factions

Rumors of a Galactic Civil War erupting are increasing. Stories are spreading of Imperial Moffs attempting to consolidate their power in the wake of the Emperor’s death. Mon Mothma is rallying the Rebels to form a New Republic in the wake of their success against the Empire. Planets all over the galaxy are preparing for war on their soil. Calls are being put forth for retired military to come back and lead the scattered troops. The NR looks to each planet’s citizens to join them and stabilize a New Republic. The Imperials expect citizens to demonstrate their loyalty and help maintain the Empire.

OOC:

Many in the EiF community have participated in two live tests of the GCW invasion system which greatly helped the devs and the players learn more about what is needed to improve when the entire GCW finally goes live! New and returning players continue to swell the population. Crafters are working hard to meet the demands of the growing community, as it prepares for the GCW.

Part of players’ preparation is gaining enough faction to be able to participate in the exciting, original content exclusive to  Empire in Flames. This Feature is one in a series to help players prepare. This week we are concentrating on gaining factional alignment.

The GCW’s factions are Imperial and New Republic. You will need to earn 200 faction points to show a faction recruiter you are serious about joining their cause. These are earned by:

  • Killing enough opposite faction NPCs or overt players
    • Random factionally align NPCs
    • Faction missions obtained from mission terminals
      • Found in Cities
        • NPC
        • Player Cities whose Mayor has provided them.
  • Having another player of the same faction delegate some of their faction points to you.

Once you have your points, locate a recruiter. They will let you join the faction and you will gain the rank of private. There are links to locations below, but there will also be recruiters at the GCW Basecamps and in the defending faction’s city.

New Republic recruiters (formerly the Rebel Recruiters)

http://swg.wikia.com/wiki/Rebel_recruiter

Imperial Recruiters

http://swg.wikia.com/wiki/Imperial_recruiter

To participate in a GCW invasion you will need to already be aligned with a faction. When you enter an active GCW invasion, you will automatically be made Special Forces. You will be vulnerable to enemy players, NPCs, and their equipment, such as turrets.

Special thanks to Kelta for editing and Halyn for reviewing for accuracy!

Clearly Not Combat Princess!

Friday Feature 1/12/2018 : A Chat with Sandarie

The staff has been really busy getting ready for the second GCW Invasion Live test. Instead of something new, fun, and exciting, you get to know more about your Community Manager.

Clearly Not Combat Princess!

EiF: Which versions of SWG did you play?

Sandarie: I can’t really say that I played the CU. I started SWG three weeks before the NGE hit. I never got a chance to do much except learn the tinest bit about creature handling.

EiF: If you played in the pre-CU live, approximately how long did you play in the pre-CU?

Sandarie: As noted above, I did not play the pre-CU. EiF is a crazy experience for me. All the nostalgia for the game I have loved more than any other MMO, but with a newness to it since it wasn’t the same familiar gameplay.

EiF: Which server did you play on?

Sandarie: I started on Narutis. Joined a guild, but a friend from Everquest found out I was playing SWG and talked me into creating a character on Starsider. That’s when Sandarie was born and I never looked back!

EiF: Which classes and which was your favorite?

Sandarie: I loved the roleplayer class the best! *eyes twinkle mischievously* I liked the love the Entertainers eventually got in the NGE and I was always a little sad to hear all the stories about how Entertainers were actually a benefit to other players back before the NGE. I played an Entertainer, a Doc, and I had a Domestic mostly to make clothing for my roleplaying!

EiF: How many accounts did you own/manage?

Sandarie: I had three at one time. I stopped playing the game for awhile and one of the accounts was taken over by a friend. So when I came back, I only have two accounts at the end of SWG.

EiF: What type of gameplay style do you most enjoy?

Sandarie: Roleplaying! I also enjoy PvE sometimes. I HATE PvP, unless it’s with a group of people. I will never again be talked into playing on a server of any kind where it’s set in an open world PvP environment. Way too stressful for me.

EiF: What’s a typical gaming session for you, what activities?

Sandarie: Wow, hard to have anything typical. It’s a lot reactive unless there is an event that I need to help run. I get a lot of /tells in game, in Discord, and on the social websites we are on.  I always hope to get in some roleplaying, though. I always check on my vendors, especially lately. Being a chef was a pretty slow business, even being the only one on the server most of our 8.5 months. However things are picking up

EiF: What do you most enjoy about SWG?

Sandarie: First, foremost, and always the people. The community. The sandbox provided by SWG, the a universe people are passionate about is incredible to me.

EiF: What do you enjoy most about Empire in Flames?

Sandarie: THE PEOPLE! *grins* are you sensing a pattern here? I feel very honored I’ve gotten to be a part of something so amazing twice in a lifetime. Not only with some of my dearest friends who have been in my life for over a decade, but now new friends are being added. Some are folks who were only “legends” to me back on live. The SWG/Starsider celebrities outside of the piloting community are now people I get to interact with and have as part of my EiF experience. How much of a blessing is that!

EiF: When you are not ingame, what do you enjoy doing?

Sandarie: I love to read. Sometimes I binge watch a television show. Since SWG Live died, I’ve gotten 4 grands added to my family. I really enjoy my job too.

EiF: What do you do outside of EiF / do for a living?

Sandarie: I am a corporate trainer for a very large business. I travel most weeks throughout the United States and spend a week on-site with clients. I love my job. I get asked a lot if I have favorite places I’ve visited. My VERY favorite visits have been when the travel allows me to meet friends and family. I’ve gotten to meet Halyn and Kelta, as well as Anishor. From a location perspective, it’s hard to say where my favorite place has been. I go to Washington, DC every chance I get. I was awestruck by Alaska and I can’t wait to take my family camping up in Maine near Bar Harbor. But if you ever get the chance, you must visit Niagara Falls and Mount Rushmore.

EiF: What is your role with EiF? What does that entail?

Sandarie: Some weeks, a lot of weeks actually, EiF has been getting more hours of my time than my regular job. And I’m not talking about playing the game. I’m the liaison between the community and the rest of the staff. I manage the Website and Forums along with BluePyros. I write or research most of the Friday Features and other posts. I make a lot of requests to the Devs on behalf of the community. I listen to community issues. I help coordinate server events and sometimes get to play an NPC in the EiF RP Campaign. I run the EiF RP Hub, Port Jato. I coordinate most of our social media outreach on about half a dozen sites…. *takes a deep breath* There is more, but this gives you a taste of the things the EiF CM does.

EiF: If you could have ANYTHING instantly in EiF, what would it be?

Sandarie: Female Nautolan!

EiF: If you could find out one thing about our EiF Community, what would it be?

Sandarie: What makes them happiest while playing EiF.

EiF: What gives you Developer’s Crack?

Sandarie: I’m not a developer. They won’t let me near the coding *broad grins* But when I hear how much someone love EiF and gushes about how amazing our community is… that touches my heart and gives me my CM crack.
